It’s seems more and more true every year that Games Workshop seems determined to give their 40k IP license to practically anyone who asks for it. While the original Necromunda might be the greatest tabletop game that Games Workshop ever produced (in my humble opinion) they don’t appear to be taking the video game version too seriously.
We need to remember not to be fooled by the fact that this game has Focus Home Interactive plastered all over it’s marketing. Focus Home Interactive are a burgeoning publisher that has accrued a decent library of games under it’s belt. But Necromunda: Underhive Wars is being developed by Rogue Factor, the studio that brought us the Lukewarm Mordheim: City of the Damned.
I don’t want to get too down on this project before we get a full picture of the product. But this is a game that has the potential to bring to life one of the most vibrant and fascinating parts of the richly detailed and deep 40k universe. I hate to say it but this trailer looks like a cut scene from a late 90’s PC game:
There is nothing I would like more than for this game to be a shock success with all the intricacy and character of the original tabletop game. But so far I’m not ready to hop aboard the hype train. Maybe we need to see an actual gameplay trailer before the excitement hits or maybe I’m being a curmudgeon who can’t let go of my old tabletop glories with my Delaque gang…
Either way GReviews will bring you the coverage for Necromunda: Underhive Wars as it develops because we want them to prove better than this teaser trailer.
