Left 4 Dead stands tall as one of the greatest co-op shooters of all time. It’s blend of frantic action combined with the need for close, dedicated cooperation made for an excellent zombie apocalypse experience.
It’s been almost ten years since L4D 2 was released and I was beginning to think that the franchise had gracefully stepped back out of the lime light for good. But this week Turtle Rock, the studio formerly known as Valve South and the team behind L4D, posted 17 new jobs for a new AAA game that is part of a globally recognised franchise.
The reason why this is getting people hyped for a new L4D is because Turtle Rock only have two globally recognised franchises in their stable: Left 4 Dead and Evolve. The likelihood that we are seeing a new Evolve game is pretty low considering the lukewarm reception that the game has received. It is possible that Turtle Rock have gotten their hands on the license for someone else’s franchise but it’s far more likely that a third Left 4 Dead game is on the horizon as its practically a guaranteed success in the right hands.
We won’t know more for a little while but Gamescom this August would certainly be a great time for a massive reveal announcement…
