Here at GReviews we’re big fans of CS:GO, playing it regularly and even reminiscing about the days when CS:Source was all the rage. We’re obviously in a new era of Counter Strike and even though it’s been around a good few years CS:GO is still one of the most played FPS games out there today.
So when we were given the opportunity to fire a few questions at a real progamer, we jumped at the chance. One of the major players in the sport at the moment and also one of the best AWPers in the world, GReviews had a few questions answered by kennyS.
Q. The team has been together for around 12 months, with plenty of success in that time. What has been the highlight and what are your aspirations for 2018?
A. To me the highlight of the year was the ESL Pro League Season 5, considering the comeback during the online season and the tournament itself, everything got together and we have beaten SK Gaming in semi-final. It was undoubtedly a great feeling, the crowd was also supporting us and it was the tournament that gave me the best emotions. As for my aspirations, it would be great to have more consistency and more stability in 2018.
Q. Any low points or challenges during that 12 months?
A. Our inconsistency and some really painful losses such as ESL One Cologne and PGL 2017 Kraków Major Championship.
Q. What is your favourite map to play competitively as a team?
A. I think it’s mostly a ‘historical choice’ but I always loved playing on Inferno and Nuke as a team. I feel great on every map but those two have always been my favorite.
Q. How did you become a competitive player?
A. Nothing really original, my brother is 11 years older than me, he was playing a really old version of CS back then and he got me into it, I was watching, I tried and I instantly enjoyed it.
Q. When you aren’t playing CS:GO, what game are you playing?
A. I’m mostly playing FIFA with my friends. Apart from that I’m not really playing any other games than CS:GO, not anymore.
Q. How did you choose your favourite weapon in CS:GO?
A. Definitely the AWP and I don’t really know why… Getting into CS it was the weapon I felt the most comfortable with, I felt special, I liked the tough roles, the ones that require a lot of precision and give you a lot of responsibility. If I fail as an AWPer during the game, I can make my team lose, if I am confident, I can make my team win. I like that kind of pressure. Playing with AWP well also impressive and I love that.
Q. How do you warm up just before a competitive game?
A. I’m playing a little bit of DeathMatch, that’s all.
Q. Who is your biggest rivalry with?
A. As a team, we have this impressive winning streak against SK Gaming but I wouldn’t really call it a rivalry. We also have North but it’s not a rivalry either because they never really caused us trouble.
Q. Finally, any hints or tips for anyone who is just starting out or wanting to get into competitive gaming?
A. Follow your dream, if it’s what you want to do, set your goals and reach them. Don’t forget your social life, I wouldn’t be who I am without it, making the people you love proud of you is the best feeling in the world.
We would like to thank AOC for putting us in touch with the team and kennyS for taking the time to answer our questions. We wish him and all of the G2 Esports team the best of luck in 2018.
