Dave ‘Drax’ Bautista Wants To Quit Guardians Of The Galaxy 3
Ever since James Gunn was fired by Disney from Guardians of The Galaxy 3, after a series of old and arguably offensive tweets resurfaced, there has been a great deal of backlash against the decision. At first it was just the fans who thought this was a massive overreaction to what amounted to a smear campaign. But the entire cast of the movie have also signed an open letter to have James Gunn re-hired as the writer director for the next movie. This goes alongside a fan made petition that has reached well over a quarter of a million signatures.
But things have really started to ratchet up now with one of the main cast members, Dave Bautista who plays Drax the Destroyer, actually threatening to quit Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 if James Gunn’s script, at least, is not used:
“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.”
As Bautista explains it isn’t as simple as him saying ‘No I won’t do it’ due to contractual obligations. But this level of support for James Gunn is both heart warming and harrowing for the movie’s future.
Does anyone really want to see a Guardians movie without Drax? Can Disney really take that risk? These are questions that we just don’t have an answer for right now but it’s certainly piling the pressure on for James Gunn to have at least some impact on the final product.
